Meet Philip Wood

A proud Texas native and graduate of Texas A&M, Philip Wood grew up immersed in agriculture — working on his father’s farm and raising animals through FFA. Though he studied Agricultural Economics, it was the world of homebuilding that ultimately called to him.

Since 2004, Philip has been building homes in the Houston area with one clear focus: to create a better homebuilding experience rooted in trust, care, and clear communication. After years of working with other builders, he founded Wood Custom Homes to give clients a more personal, relationship-based approach to building the home of their dreams.

BEHIND THE BUILD

Philip’s foundation in faith, family, and craftsmanship shapes the way we build — and the way we work.

Today, Philip leads each project with integrity, attention to detail, and a deep commitment to client care — values shaped by both his personal faith and professional standards. When he’s not on the job, you’ll find him enjoying time with his wife and three kids, grilling a great steak, or catching a game (especially if the Aggies are playing).

We’re proud to partner with HFOT to build a specially adapted home for local Houston veteran, SFC Henry Escobedo. Henry served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and was later diagnosed with Leber’s Optic Neuropathy, leaving him legally blind with minimal light perception.

After his diagnosis, Henry leaned on the support of his wife, Mayra. “Mayra has stuck with me through thick and thin, she is my light,” he says. Together, they now focus on creating a safe, accessible life for their two children, Jairo and Jade.

Their new single-level home features wide hallways, automatic doors, and ample lighting — helping Henry live more comfortably and independently. “I will be empowered knowing there is always hope and people that care,” he says. “I will be more enthusiastic and look forward to finishing goals I once started.”
